Captains Blog Stardate 12022011 Adding Sound

Our game will have several sounds. There will be punch sound effects when the bullies catch our hero. There will be a bell sound effect when the protagonist is late to class. There will be background music throughout the game. As  you can see, we'll use alot of sound. It will enhance the learning value by keeping players engaged.

Captains Blog Stardate 12012011 Assembling Your Demo

Whilst making this demo I've learned alot about bullying. It's a scary topic. Some kids have even killed themselves. It doesnt stop when schools over. Cyber bullying can be just as cruel.

Whilst looking at the blogging requirements I realized that it doesn't say the links of pictures have to be relevant to the topic of the blog, so...

Captains Blog Stardate 11212011 Thanksgiving!

My Thanksgiving day plan is to eat with my family in Beckley. We've been doing this for the past several years. We eat all the classic Thanksgiving foods, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatos, etc. On my 3 days off (aside from thursday) I will be rehearsing/performing in Mary The Rock Opera. Here's a website about it ! You should come see it, it's AWESOME!!!Here's a video of a preview performance we did at the mall!

This is Sarah and Jonathan who play Mary And Joseph. You may know the Nativity Story, but you've never seen it like this before (unless you've seen Mary before, it's an annual show)

Captains Blog Stardate 11202011 Munchkins and Adding Scenes

Wizard Of Oz Munchkin Dies

Karl had a cruel father, who didn't understand that dwarfism was an incurable condition, so he attempted really primitive and torturous cures. Obviously they didn't work. Karl's father was probably scared of things   that were different, so he wanted him to be taller. If I were Karl's father I would have treated Karl like a normal kid. If I had been Karl I would have called CPS.

Here's the story this is based on

Adding Scenes

We are including video scenes that help us tell our story. Ayiti uses story telling well. It does this with slides and pictures that say what's happening to your family. Tesla Adventure tells a story. It has different scenes, and they tell a complete story.

It has nothing to do with the topic, but the required blogs page doesn't say the picture has to be relevant, and I couldn't think of a picture that fit this topic. I just thought it was funny.

Captains Blog, Stardate 11112011 (Robotic Guide Dog Blog)

A robotic dog wouldn't be distracted as easily as a real dog. However, a real dog has intuition that a robot wouldnt have. A real dog also gives affection, something technology can never replicate. If I needed a seeing eye dog I would get a real one. I sure wouldn't use my own pet dog, he'd probably lead me straight into oncoming traffic at the first sign of bacon.

Developing A Primary Game Scene Blog

One flash topic we are using in our game is collision detection. When the victim touches the items, they appear in his inventory. When the bully touches the victim, the items AND the victim all return to their original positions. Our game will be educational, because it shows real situations. It will improve when we add our video cutscenes. These show a story while also presenting facts about bullies!

Captains Blog Stardate 11611 Drawing a Scene/Blind Runner (no, I didnt possibly wait until 10PM sunday night to do my blog)

Drawing A Scene

A new concept I've learned  about my topic is that bullies take many forms. I would have never thought of a small guy as a bully, but as Yoda says (I know I'm a trekkie, but I also love star wars, sue me.) "Size matters not!" The US government site about bullying helped me with this. I can trust this site because its a US government site that ends in .gov.

Blind Runner

Stargardts disease makes you gradually loose your sight. It's hereditary, so you have it at birth. I dont enjoy running, so I'd probably use it as an excuse, but I'd keep doing theater, making films would be all but impossible though. I think I could trust a guide dog, because they've been used for a long time.

Captains Blog Stardate 10272011 (Blind Marching Band)

I think that this band is very inspirational, but logical. The appeal of music is more sound than visual, which makes it perfect for those who cant see. I'm a singer and I never learned to read music, infact I dont like the idea of written music, especiallly with today's technology. In previous times, writting music was the only way to preserve it, but today we can make audio recordings. They probably learned by trial and error, seeing what makes what sound, and then putting those sounds together to make songs.

Captains Blog Stardate 10132011 Imagining Your Game

I'm designing this game for people who want to learn about blood cells! This game will teach players about viruses and how white blood cells fight them. This game will take place in the heart, veins, and artery's of the human body. This is where blood cells exist. In the game world, viruses will attack red blood cells, and white blood cells will have to protect them. The player will have to answer trivia questions about various viruses to kill them. Because quizzes are boring but games are funducational!

Captains Blog Stardate 1062011 Choosing A Topic

My wide topic was Internal Organs. I narrowed that down to the circulatory system, and then to white blood cells fighting viruses. My sources were
 http://biology4kids.com/files/systems_main.html
http://www.kidsbiology.com/human_biology/respiratory-system.php
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_(anatomy).

I chose this topic because action games are very exciting, and what could be a better topic for an action game than the part of the body that fights viruses?

Captain's Blog Stardate 1032011 Blind Adventure Blog

If I were the man from the article I would take the experimental drug, because I am a film maker. If I lost my sight, I would loose my ability to make films, something that I hope to make career out of. So if I did lose it, I would do anythig, even experimental medications, to get it back. I would rather lose smell, because it would be the easiest one to live without. I wouldnt need to it for school, extra curriculars, or most carreers I might have in the future.

Captains Blog Stardate 9292011 (Playing To Learn)

I learened that while strategy games are harder to play, they help learn more. Adventure games are more fun, but less educational. Ayiti's features were all very good. I liked how the characters each had 3 levels, health, education, and happyness. I'd like to know if Ayiti was written in flash, and if so, what the code looked like, It was unlike any flash game I've seen before.

Make a Mini Game

This week we have been working on 2 minigames, one about a wolf, bunny, and carrot, and one about anything we want. I chose alien invasion (surprise surprise, the Trekkie made a SciFi gam)

I dont normally play games in my spare time, but occasionally I will if I find one I enjoy. I honestly dont have any favorites, because I dont remember many. If I had to choose one I'd say Raft Wars. It's a fun game about fighting ninjas pirates and the like, on an inflatable beach raft. It's simple and light hearted.

This assignment definitely gave me a new appreciation for games. Making such simple games is such a challenge. I look forward to writing more complex ones in the weeks and months ahead!

Captains Blog Stardate 9162011 (Meet Flash)

I was absent the day we covered Meet Flash, and was unable to do the lesson. I watched the videos from home, but my home computer does not have flash. When I returned to school I began working on the minigame lesson. Flash is very intimidating, but the possibilities are exiciting. It will be alot of memorization and alot of math, but unlike math class, this will have a tangible end product, the game! Ever since I was young I wanted to learn how to make computer games, and now I'm learning!

On another note, one of the gadgets on my blog is a Star Trek trivia question. Check it out and pick the answer you think is right! I'll be posting new questions every few weeks, and the correct answer to the last question will be posted on the blog!!!

Captain's Blog Stardate 9052011-Single Story Questions

(The comments on my blog/names of blogs I commented on are in my previous post which can be found here.) I just finished watching the Single Story video. Here are my answers to the questions

1) To have a single story, means to have an idea about a place or people that is very 1 sided.
2)I have heard people say that WV is a very uneducated and uncultured place. We have a very good arts community that is very rarely talked about outside of our state.
3)People say that France is a weak country that doesn't do well in military action. They had a large part in fighting the oppressive government in Libya.
4)A game could give players a very in depth view of a place or community that looked at the issue from all sides.

Captain's Blog, Stardate 8302011, Starting Blogs

Hello blog world!!! My name is Austin Hugo Tejano. Austin's my real 1st name, Hugo and Tejano are nicknames friends have given me over the years. I'm not posting my last name, because this is the internet, and everything's public.

I've called my blog "Captain's Blog" because i am a HUGE Star Trek fan.

I'm excited about this class. So far I managed to create my WIKI page in HTML. This is the link to my Globaloria Wiki Page. (you can only see it if you're in our school's Globaloria class). It has information about myself. Prior to this I had no experience in HTML. Soon we will begin using Flash to create a game. One of the things I love about this class is that it is all about computers. I enjoy trying new things on computers, and if they dont work figuring out why not, and what can be done to make them work.
