Captains Blog Stardate 03292013 Mindsight

This article is about an art gallery that lets blind people touch the sculptures to experience the art. This is a really cool idea. I think I'd like to go there. The photo shows a guy who isn't blind wearing a blindfold so he can experience it like the blind people. I think I would try that if I went. I know art can be heard (music) or seen (Stage, Screen, Canvas). I've never thought about tactile art, but I'm sure it can be art. Some would say a finely crafted meal could be taste art or a well made scented candle can be smell art. So, yes, art can possess all five senses. The lick-able wall paper from Willy Wonka comes to mind. It's beautifully designed, tastes good, I imagine that it would be scented like it's flavor...now if they embossed it and had sound effects it could be a five sensory art...just a thought.

Captains Blog Stardate 03272013 Grades

I'm pretty happy with my grades. I have a few Bs and mostly As. If I can get those Bs up that would be great. If I can't, oh well, I'll live. The class I hope I can get my grade up the most is physics.  For some reason  I really want to get an A in that class. Maybe it's because I got an A last semester so I know I can do it! I think if I work hard and get all the points I can I'll be able to get that one up!

Someday...

Captains Blog Stardate 03212013 Week In Pictures (THE SEQUEL)

Alright, so a few weeks ago we did a "Week in Pictures" blog! Now it's back by popular demand!!!

This is a picture of a large number of Catholics using their phones/cameras/tablets to take a photo of the newly elected Pope Francis. This just shows how much society has changed in such a short period of time. When Pope Jean Paul II was elected in 1978 most people had cameras, but they were all cameras, and they were all film cameras. None of them had glowing screens and not everyone always carried them. When Pope Benedict XVI was elected there were some digital cameras and some smart phones, but nothing like the iPhones and Androids of today. I wonder what we'll use to record the next big event in papal history...

Captains Blog Stardate 05032013 3D Computers

I kinda think this is more of a gimmick than a helpful feature. Video games have features like Kinect or Play Station Move, yet people continue to use traditional controllers the majority of the time. If it works right it should be easy to use, but that's a big if. I think these computers will be limited to concepts, prototypes and science fiction films. Despite all the Augmented Reality, Touchscreen and Motion Control, I still prefer my keyboard and mouse.
It looks cool though...

Captain's Blog Stardate 03032013 Week In Pictures

Ok, so according to the caption "Boys play on the roof of the entrance to a football stadium in Gao, Mali, on Feb. 20." It looks like that kid in the orange is falling, probably to his death. The kid dangling off the roof is probably going to fall to his death as well. Also, where are the responsible adults??? Like seriously, these kids are dangling off the roof!

This...does not look safe...

Captains Blog Stardate 04012013 Sequester

The sequester is a bunch of cuts to federal spending. It will be alot of layoffs, alot of other stuff, but alot of layoffs. We've known it was coming I love how this article compares our situation to a bad sequel to a movie we've all seen before. First is was the budget crisis last year. Next we had the good ol' fiscal cliff. That was fun... Now we've had the dreaded sequester. I think this is a bad plan, as are most of the plans that come out of capitol hill. Ohh well...there's my rant for the day...

Captains Blog Stardate 02062013 Hostage in Alabama

Wow...I hadn't heard about this till after the boy was rescued!  That was a brave bus driver. I wonder if I would have the guts to do something like that. I like to think that I would. The man who did this probably had some serious problems. I almost wish he would have lived through it so that he could face the court.  Here's another article on the situation

Captains Blog Stardate 02252013 Spring Break Blog

I can't wait till Spring Break! Every year spring break excites me, and this year is no different! In fact, this year I'm even more excited! Normally I stay home for spring break, but this year I'm going to London. I signed up for the trip in June and I've been excited ever since. It's with the school. I had to get a job and save up all summer to be able to go, but it's all gonna be worth it!
